We teach Latin as a living language and get students speaking and hearing spoken Latin from the very beginning. Our program uses a combination of Lingua Latina per se Illustrata, supplemental materials, and the direct method to develop vocabulary, grammar, and fluency. In additional to speaking the language, our goal is to prepare students to read authentic Latin literature in its original language, so that they may have a deeper understanding of Western civilization's most foundational stories and ideas.
Our philosophy course selects different books per semester for students to read, analyze, and discuss. In the fall 2025 semester, we will study Plato's Gorgias and Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. In previous semesters, we have studied Plato's Republic, other Platonic dialogues, St. Augustine's Confessions, Sir Thomas More's Utopia, and other books. Our selection of materials to read and study depends partly on student interest and background knowledge, all with the aim of developing their overall understanding of philosophical ideas and their development through history.
Our history and humanities course uses Classical Academic Press' Humanitas course, in which students study ancient Greece and Rome, their culture, philosophy, art, literature, and history through primary sources and stories.
Our program offers math at every level, from elementary to high school. These include elementary math, prealgebra, algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus. We also offer tutoring to advanced students in calculus.
Our English program selects literature which students read and then study, discuss, and analyze with an instructor. These courses are complemented with writing tasks to develop further understanding of the texts and general writing ability.
We use the Collins Writing Program to develop writing skill and fluency. Students practice their writing through prompts in increasingly complex stages and edit their work according to Focus Correction Areas (FCAs). These build specific and foundational skills that allow students do more complex tasks and become competent writers. Our grammar instruction uses a combination of Easy Grammar and The Elements of Style for grammar exercises and writing principles, respectively. Students are given prompts to practice writing by focusing on specific elements of grammar or style.
Our reading program uses the Orton-Gillingham approach for students to improve their reading fluency and phonemic awareness. This includes stories to develop further reading ability and functional vocabulary. Our vocabulary program uses Vocabulary Workshop at the level appropriate for the student. This workbook provides a list of new words to be mastered every week and a set of exercises to develop comprehension and retention.
We offer tutoring in physics, chemistry, and biology, at all levels, depending on student need and background knowledge. Contact us to register for science tutoring.
